Kutna Hora was once a major center of European silver mining. It is not without reason that there is a monumental cathedral in the city center dedicated to St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners. People of this very profession contributed much to the development and prosperity of the town. The mines where this precious metal was once mined are still preserved here.

The city attracts visitors

The city attracts visitors with its picturesque narrow streets, the charm of medieval buildings and the splendour of its panoramas.
During the tour we will see all the main sights of Kutna Hora: the cathedrals of St. Barbara and St. Jakub, the Jesuit College building, the Italian Court, the old fountain and of course we will find out the secret of the unusual name of the town.

The excursion to Kutna Hora can be combined with a visit to the Cesky Sternberk Castle.

Cesky Sternberk Castle

Within the walls of the remarkable Cesky Sternberk Castle there are many fascinating objects of decoration, including bas-reliefs, carvings, marble inlay and semi-precious stone jewellery. In the castle itself one can see many valuable collections - from Viennese and Meissen porcelain to Dutch silver miniatures, antique furniture, a rich library of old books and manuscripts, 18th century chandeliers weighing up to three hundred kilograms, and even magnificent knight's armour. It is believed that the Sternberk family hid the treasures deep underground in the castle.

Kutna Hora Bone Church

Every year the cemetery church Sedlec Ossuary, also known as Bone church, attracts visitors with its iconic and historic architecture. Inside the church is a chapel artfully decorated with skulls, chandeliers, and candelabras made from real human remains. A total of seven hundred and seventy bones were used in the construction of these items. The bones were carefully disinfected and bleached before being used. No amount of research or first-hand accounts can convey the unsettling atmosphere of the church as a whole. To fully appreciate its magnitude, one must visit Kutna Hora and see it for himself.
